By using the new trailer system, the transportation time for excavators, dozers and drills was reduced significantly, resulting in productivity increases and higher production flexibility, fuel and maintenance savings. It was originally developed by an excavator operator, who was frustrated with the slow "walking" times of these machines.

Description

The Finnish start up company Sleipner developed a new transport solution for the faster and easier movement of large excavators, dozers and drilling machines in open pit mines and quarries. Normally it takes a lot of time and effort to move these machines, for example, from one production area to another. The company developed a trailer system that cuts travel time by 60-80%, reduces fuel consumption during transportation by 85% and cuts undercarriage maintenance costs by 50%, thus significantly increasing productivity and reducing CO2 emissions and resource use (through reduced wear and tear on the undercarriage). More than 160 units are now running in mines worldwide.  In addition, the company has developed mobility analytics software products that allow for better understanding and optimisation of heavy mobile equipment movement within a mine or quarry, resulting in further productivity increases and a lower environmental footprint.
